Talon v1.0.3 Released!
[Sun 24 Feb 2008, 9:40 PM by TheRegisteredOne] [0 Comments]

The galaxy has been forever altered after the events of The Core Contingency. The empire is no more, the rebels now reign within its former domain, and a new threat looms over the former enemies. Three powerful factions now fight in an epic struggle for galactic supremacy. Choose your side: protect your new home as the Arm Dominion, restore your empire as the Core Insurgency, or exact your revenge as the Talon Crusade.

The long awaited new version of Talon is finally here! The new Talon v1.03 brings this 10 year old game back to life with a slew of innovative features that tests the TA engine's limits:
- Completely new faction with new look, new design philosophy, and new gameplay.
- Completely faithful to the original look of the game. Arm and Core units look and feel like they rolled right out of cavedog and shipped with the original game.
- Powerful Experiental units such as rolling cathedrals, massive dreadnaughts, land battleships, hover cruisers, carpet bombers, siege tanks, star cruisers, deployable mobile factories, and gigantic motherships.
- Towering Experiental structures such as orbital ion cannons, upgradable super fusions, and long-range nuclear/emp cannons, and ceasefire generators.
- Previously unimagined units such as mobile factories, teleportation gates, unit upgrades, structure addons, mind-control towers, orbital ion cannons, ceasefire generators, fusion adjacency bonus, missile subs, base shields(ala gungans in phantom menace), light of sight generators, commander hacking, accurate turret arcs, walking ships, multiple unit air transports, and much more.
- finally, Talon is alive and active. It is undergoing constant updates, so your suggestions (if acceptable to me) will not fall on deaf ears! I want your feedback!

Download CMU units you fools!
[Tue 14 Nov 2006, 3:59 PM by TheRegisteredOne] [5 Comments]

Due to recent barbaric terrorist attacks on Creation Matrix Units units' UnitUniverse Scores, We at TA:C would like to lend support to Bidigam (CMU's unit maker) and unit downloaders, the victims of this act of savagery, from the buttom of our hearts with this special message:

Download CMU units! Bidigam implores you to! CMU units are really nice. You cannot disagree. TRO agrees with this statement: "download CMU units! [...] CMU units are really nice. [...]*" CMU has such nice units such as these:

So go to CMU and download everything now.

*TA:C units are also very excellent too , they emulate the original TA style more, and they have cooler names.

Also, Talon is progressing nicely too, we have only around 3 more planned units unfinished. and balancing. Check out this uber cool huge big giant humongous screenshot! :OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. And these uber cool gui (graphical user interface) stuff I drew! GUI!

TAIW New Version! Talon New Forum And New Progress!
[Wed 9 Aug 2006, 6:12 PM by TheRegisteredOne] [5 Comments]

Minion has been working hard to bring you the latest version of space total conversion for TA - Independence War! Which TA:C honourably hosts in the absence of account information to the official TA:IW website ftp. Minion is so silly... L O L.
>.>
In TA:IW, you get to play as either the Massive Federation or the Scheming Coalition for the dominance over space (descriptions not canon). You utilize various types of weapons in your bid for conquest, such as fighters, frigates, and uber duper capital ships with lasers, missiles, coloured plasma blobs, and fantastical ballistic space guns! For more accurate and biased information regarding TA:IW, please go to their official TA:IW website with its easy to remember address - taiw.tauniverse.com.

Here is a link to the latest version of TA:IW. This is the only link for this version of TA:IW other than a rapidshare thing, but that sucks.
Here is a screenshot! Holy sh*t! It looks too amazing to be true! I think I am going blind!

In other news, The Talon Race Project ("race" as in a faction, like the Arm and the Core, for those of you who don't understand) got a new forum! Although Talon is still a TAC Project, The Talon Project will no longer share a forum with TAC (TAC forum). In the new Talon forum, you will find useful threads such as The Talon FAQ, which you will never bother to read, and the regular updates to the project itself. So if you have any n00bish or otherwise questions, concerns, or suggestions, please post them in the New Talon Race Project Forum!.

The Talon Project itself is going pretty well too! We are going into the phase where we frustrate you by showing off all the cool new features and screens but not releasing the latest version for you to play! Exciting! In a bid to gain popularity among the more n00bish portions of the TA community, we are making not one, but 3 uber duper units! OMG!!!!:O:O:O:O. including this uber duper tank that we affectionately call MoFo (Mobile Fortress). The MoFo has such uber duper weapons such as rapid-fire battleship cannons, 3 rapidfire anti-personnel lasers turrets, and 4 rapid-fire vertical launch anti-air starburst missile launchers! Here is a pic:

On a completely unrelated note...

Absolutely nothing happened in Sector 83 by 9 by 12 today.
I repeat, nothing happened in Sector 83 by 9 by 12.

Thank you.

"Where do I download the latest Talon Beta?"
[Sun 11 Jun 2006, 5:35 PM by TheRegisteredOne] [2 Comments]

What is Talon?
Talon is a third-party faction being developed at TA:C, it has a different build tree than the Arm and Core, so hovercrafts in level 1 is not a bug. To learn more about Talon, check the TA:C forums

The latest Talon Beta is available at http://fileuniverse.com/?p=showitem&ID=1982
Make sure your download the one uploaded the last and has the biggest numbers in its name. For example, hypothetically, Talon version 2.3.4 is later than Talon version 1.9.9, and 2.1.1 is later than 2.1. Talon is updated fairly regularly, so check for updates often.

That Arm Battle Sub...
[Tue 22 Nov 2005, 4:39 PM by TheRegisteredOne] [0 Comments]

The arm battle sub BOB had a (several) problems in its previous version. It has been fixed now (yep, that's now). So if you feel like, go to the unit section and get the amended and working version, or something...

EDIT: make sure the file you downloaded is TAC_BOB2.UFO.

Mini Carriers
[Fri 28 Oct 2005, 2:18 PM by TheRegisteredOne] [7 Comments]

TADD aka the Total Annihilation Design Division. One of the first and most popular unit groups, and one with many original ideas. One of these ideas was the design of two "mini-carriers"; one landing pad, a light radar and a smaller reactor. Building an Advanced Shipyard is a pretty big investment in metal, so having the ability to churn out energy-producing aircraft carriers is a big plus.

However, like most TADD units, the carriers were plagued by the flaws of early TA unit design: the build pics weren't looking very hot, and the models and texturing were very different from the OTA carriers. The scripting and balancing had some issues as well. That's why WillyTheSquid decided to improve upon a good idea, and upgrade the mini-carriers to reflect how far unit making has come since that time.

The new mini-carriers feature:

A new script. The radar can be turned off to consume less energy, and it stops spinning when turned off. The defective laser turrets were removed, and a 'fake missile' script has been added to allow the mini-carriers to accompany your attack fleet.

Updated models. The models were updated to match 2005 modelling and texturing standards. The corpses were cleaned up as well.

New build pictures to fit in seamlessly with the OTA units.

Stargate!
[Thu 6 Oct 2005, 7:20 AM by TheRegisteredOne] [9 Comments]

After nearly a month of work, TheRegisteredOne, Zodius, and zwzsg are proud to present the [FINAL VERSION] of the Stargate (from the movie and the tv series) unit for TA. Built from the Commander, the Stargate allows for near instantaneous transportation of units to anywhere on the map where there is another Stargate.

Below is a copy of its user manual:

===================================
Stargate unit for Total Annihilation and Spring
===================================

Important: make sure you have UnitLimit=500 inside your totala.ini
- If unitlimit is lower, game will crash
- If unitlimit is higher, gates won't work for some players

Each gate must select an exit gate to be connected to.
That must be done manually, with the attack button:
- The out of range cursor should not be paid attention at. Click anyway, it'll work:
- If a gate is near the point clicked, then it connects to that gate.
- Otherwise, it can connect to the gate with the angle closest to the direction clicked.

Then the gate grabs nearby units. After a couple seconds they reappear at the exit gate.

If for whatever reason the teleportation fails, then the unit reappears at the entry gate. If there is something that blocks a gate, then units are held in the "stargate buffer" until the gate is cleared. There are two "stargate buffers" per gate, one for sent unit, one for received unit. Each buffer can hold only one unit. Also, having something stuck in the "sent" buffer will jam not only the sending of the entry gate but the exiting of the exit gate as well, as the exit script of the exit gate will be waiting for the unit to be transmitted. Well, in short, make sure all your gates stay clear if you want them to work.

Enemy units cannot teleport from your gate, but can teleport to your gate. If you don't want enemy units to pop out of your own gate, remember to close the iris with the on/off button.

This unit also works in Spring (64b1). However, there's a few changes in Spring:
- The attack cursor is rather picky. You have to click within the red radius, on a clear post, and may have to retry a few times before the dialing starts.
- In Spring scripts can't use units ID to determine ownerships, so all players units can use all players gates.
- Spring doesn't handle yardmaps, so the gate is impassable, so the script pushes the unit back and forth.
- While in TA the kawoosh is always oriented south, in Spring it is oriented toward the grabbed unit or the gate linked to.

See the .bos for more details. I added many #define to easily change the behavior of the gate, the unitlimit, the animation speed, etc... For instance you can toggle autoconnecting, trails of explosions, etc... by simply choosing TRUE or FALSE in the first lines of the scripts.

- TheRegisteredOne: texture
- zwzsg: script

Here is an animation made from in-game screenshots of the Stargate, to finish convincing you it is a must-have!

Go download it from TA:Cataclysm units page now!

Addendum: Since that release, a few bugs have been found, however they only show up in Spring. So while the Stargate variant hosted here on TA:Cataclysm works perfect in TA, if you are a Spring player, you may want to download the Stargate variant from FileUniverse where the Spring-only bugs have been fixed.
